Understanding AI Credits
Last updated: April 18, 2026
Wevion's AI creative tools — image generation, video generation, AI avatars, text-to-speech, and video compositing — run on a credit-based system. Credits are the currency you use to pay for AI-generated content within the platform. Every time you generate an asset, a certain number of credits are deducted from your team's balance based on the type, duration, and complexity of the content produced.
This article explains how credits work, what they cost, how to monitor your balance, and what to do when credits run low.
Prerequisites
- An active Wevion account on any paid plan (Starter, Pro, or Enterprise)
- At least Media Buyer role or higher in your team
- Access to Creative Hub or AI Chat (visible in the main sidebar navigation)
How Credits Work
Purchase-Based System
Credits in Wevion are purchased on demand rather than allocated automatically with your subscription. When you need more credits, you buy a credit package through a simple in-app checkout. The credits are added to your team's shared balance immediately after payment and remain available until used — they do not expire at the end of the month.
This means you control exactly how much you spend on AI generation. Teams that generate content heavily can purchase larger packages for better value per credit, while teams that use AI generation occasionally can buy smaller packages as needed.
Team-Wide Balance
Credits belong to the team owner's account, not to individual users. Every team member with the appropriate role draws from the same shared pool. If you are part of a team with multiple media buyers, all AI generation by any team member deducts from the same balance.
When Credits Are Deducted
Credits are deducted when the generation job completes successfully — not when you submit the request. If a job fails for any reason (content safety filter, infrastructure issue, timeout), no credits are consumed. You only pay for results you actually receive.
Credit Packages
You can purchase credits at any time from the AI Chat interface or when prompted by a low-balance warning. Three packages are available:
| Package | Credits | Price | Approx. Messages | Value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 5,000 | $5 | ~79 AI Chat messages | $1.00 per 1,000 credits |
| Standard | 20,000 | $20 | ~317 AI Chat messages | $1.00 per 1,000 credits |
| Pro | 50,000 | $50 | ~793 AI Chat messages | $1.00 per 1,000 credits |
The "Approx. Messages" column refers to AI Chat conversations specifically. Creative generation (images, videos, etc.) has separate costs detailed in the next section.
To purchase credits:
- Open AI Chat from the sidebar
- Click the credit balance indicator in the top area of the chat interface
- Select a package from the dialog that appears
- Complete the Stripe checkout
- Credits are added to your balance immediately
Credit Costs by Generation Type
Different types of AI-generated content consume different amounts of credits. The cost depends on the content type, the AI engine used, and — for time-based content like video and audio — the duration.
AI Chat (Conversations)
AI Chat credits are calculated based on token usage. Each message exchange consumes credits proportional to the length of the conversation context (input) and the AI's response (output).
| Component | Cost per 1,000 tokens |
|---|---|
| Input tokens (your messages + context) | 9 credits |
| Output tokens (AI responses) | 45 credits |
A typical short conversation message costs roughly 50-80 credits. Longer exchanges with extensive context (e.g., analyzing campaign data or generating multiple copy variants) may cost more.
Image Generation
Image costs are fixed per image generated, regardless of resolution or prompt complexity. The cost varies by the AI engine used:
| Engine | Cost per Image |
|---|---|
| Flux 2 Pro | $0.03 |
| GPT Image 1.5 | $0.04 |
| Seedream 4.5 | $0.03 |
When you generate multiple variants in a single request (up to 10), each variant is charged individually. For example, generating 4 image variants with Flux 2 Pro costs $0.12 total.
Background removal costs $0.02 per image. Image resizing (format adaptation) is free.
AI credits purchased through the credit packages are used exclusively for the AI Chat Assistant. Creative generation costs (images, videos, avatars, voiceovers) are tracked separately and billed based on usage.
Video Generation
Video costs scale with duration and vary significantly by engine:
| Engine | Cost per Second | 5s Video | 10s Video |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kling 3.0 | $0.17/sec | $0.85 | $1.70 |
| Luma Ray 3 | $0.10/sec | $0.50 | $1.00 |
| Veo 3.1 | $0.10/sec | $0.50 | $1.00 |
| Kling 2.6 | $0.07/sec | $0.35 | $0.70 |
| Runway Gen-4 | $0.05/sec | $0.25 | $0.50 |
Longer videos (over 10 seconds) that use auto-extension will accumulate costs for each second of output.
AI Avatars (UGC-Style Videos)
Avatar video costs are based on the duration of the generated clip:
| Duration | Cost |
|---|---|
| Up to 30 seconds | $0.50 |
| 31-60 seconds | $1.00 |
| 61-90 seconds | $1.50 |
The cost formula is $0.50 per 30-second block (rounded up). A 45-second avatar video costs $1.00.
Text-to-Speech (TTS)
TTS costs depend on the engine and the length of your script:
| Engine | Cost per 1,000 Characters |
|---|---|
| ElevenLabs | $0.30 |
| OpenAI TTS | $0.015 |
A typical 500-character ad script would cost approximately $0.15 with ElevenLabs or $0.0075 with OpenAI TTS. TTS is the most affordable generation type.
AI Chat credits and creative generation costs are separate systems. AI Chat messages consume credits from the purchased credit packages, while creative generation (image, video, avatar, TTS) costs are tracked and billed independently based on provider usage.
Monitoring Your Balance
Credit Balance Indicator
Your current credit balance is displayed in the AI Chat interface as a pill-shaped indicator showing your remaining credits.
When your balance drops below 100 credits, the indicator changes to a warning state with red/destructive styling and a "Low" label to draw your attention.
Transaction History
You can review your full credit history to see exactly where credits were spent. The history shows:
- Purchases: Credit packages added to your balance, with the Stripe payment reference
- Usage: Credits consumed by individual AI Chat messages and generation jobs
- Running balance: Your balance after each transaction
This audit trail helps team owners understand spending patterns and plan future credit purchases.
What Happens When Credits Run Out
When your credit balance reaches zero:
AI Chat: The system checks your balance before processing each message. If you have no credits, you receive an Insufficient Credits notification instead of an AI response, and the purchase dialog opens automatically.
Creative generation: Credit availability is verified before a job is accepted into the queue. If credits are insufficient, the generation request is rejected before any processing begins.
In both cases, no work is lost — you are stopped before the operation starts, not during it. Purchase a credit package to resume immediately.
Tips for Managing Credits Efficiently
- Start with images and TTS for initial creative concepts. These are the cheapest generation types and complete the fastest, so you can iterate on ideas without burning through credits.
- Use shorter video durations during the concept phase. A 5-second clip is enough to evaluate whether a prompt produces the look you want before committing to a 10-second generation.
- Leverage image-to-video instead of text-to-video when possible. Starting from a reference image gives you more control over the output, reducing wasted generations from unexpected results.
- Monitor the balance indicator regularly. Buying credits proactively avoids workflow interruptions, especially during peak campaign launch periods when multiple team members may be generating content simultaneously.
- Review transaction history periodically to understand which generation types consume the most credits for your team, and adjust your creative workflow accordingly.
FAQ
Do credits expire? No. Purchased credits remain in your balance until used. There is no monthly expiration or reset.
Can I get a refund on unused credits? Credits are non-refundable once purchased. However, since they do not expire, you can use them at any time in the future.
Are credits shared across team members? Yes. Credits belong to the team (tied to the team owner), and all team members with the appropriate role draw from the same pool.
Do failed generations consume credits? No. Credits are only deducted when a generation job completes successfully. If a job fails, your balance is unchanged.
Can I see which team member used credits? Yes. Each credit transaction in the history is associated with the user who initiated it.
Is AI Chat usage deducted from the same balance as creative generation? AI Chat messages consume credits from the same team balance. The credit cost per chat message varies based on the length of the conversation.
Why does the same generation type cost different amounts? Different AI engines have different underlying costs. Wevion passes through the engine cost proportionally. You can let the platform choose the best engine automatically, or select a specific engine if you want to control costs.
What is the low balance threshold? The balance indicator changes to a warning state when your credits drop below 100. This gives you a heads-up to purchase more before running out completely.
