Catalogs and Product Sets for E-commerce

Last updated: April 18, 2026

If you're running an e-commerce business, Meta Product Catalogs let you create Dynamic Product Ads (DPA) that automatically show relevant products to potential customers. Wevion connects to your catalogs and makes it easy to launch catalog-based campaigns.

Prerequisites

  • A Meta Product Catalog set up in Meta Commerce Manager
  • Products uploaded to your catalog (via feed, manual upload, or Shopify/WooCommerce integration)
  • A connected Meta account in Wevion Understanding Token Health and Reconnection

How It Works

A Product Catalog in Meta is a container that holds information about your products — images, prices, descriptions, availability, and more. A Product Set is a filtered subset of your catalog (e.g., "Summer Collection," "Products over €50," "Electronics").

Wevion syncs your catalogs from Meta and lets you:

  1. Browse catalogs and product sets
  2. Preview individual products with details
  3. Launch Dynamic Product Ad (DPA) campaigns directly from the Campaign Launcher
  4. Connect pixels to catalogs for conversion tracking

How Catalog Ads Work

Dynamic Product Ads automatically show the right products to the right people:

  1. A user visits your website and views specific products (tracked by your pixel)
  2. Meta matches the viewed products to items in your catalog
  3. Your DPA campaign shows those exact products (or similar ones) to the user in an ad
  4. The ad creative (image, price, description) is pulled directly from your catalog — no manual creative creation needed

Step-by-Step Guide

Viewing Your Catalogs

  1. Navigate to Catalogs in the sidebar (under Assets)
  2. You'll see all synced catalogs from your connected Business Managers
  3. Each catalog shows:
    • Catalog name and ID
    • Vertical type (e-commerce, travel, real estate, auto)
    • Product count
    • Connection status

Connecting a Catalog

Before using a catalog for ads, connect it:

  1. Find the catalog in the list
  2. Click the Connect button
  3. Wevion activates the catalog for use in campaigns

Note: Connecting a catalog requires an active subscription with available resource quota.

Browsing Product Sets

  1. Click on a catalog to view its product sets
  2. Each product set shows its name and the filter criteria
  3. Click a product set to browse individual products

Browsing Products

Within a product set, you can see individual products with:

Field Description
Name Product title
Price Current price
Sale Price Discounted price (if applicable)
Availability In stock, out of stock, etc.
Condition New, refurbished, used
Images Product photos
Video Product video (if available)
Custom Labels Custom grouping labels (0-4)
Review Status Approved, pending review, rejected

Products are paginated for large catalogs with thousands of items.

Connecting a Pixel to a Catalog

To track conversions for catalog ads, connect a pixel:

  1. Open the catalog details
  2. Click Connect Pixel
  3. Select the pixel you want to associate
  4. Wevion adds the pixel as an "external event source" for the catalog

This connection allows Meta to match pixel events (ViewContent, AddToCart, Purchase) to products in your catalog.

To disconnect a pixel:

  1. Click Disconnect Pixel next to the connected pixel
  2. The pixel is removed as an event source

Viewing Connected Pixels

From the catalog detail page, you can see all connected pixels (external event sources) for that catalog.

Launching a Catalog Campaign

  1. Open the Campaign Launcher [See: ART-201]
  2. Set the Objective to Sales
  3. In the ad row, set the Ad Type to Catalog
  4. Select your Product Catalog
  5. Select the Product Set you want to promote
  6. Customize the Primary Text and Headline (product-specific details are pulled from the catalog automatically)
  7. The promoted object is set automatically with your catalog ID and product set ID
  8. Publish as normal

Important: Catalog ads only work with the Sales objective. Wevion validates this and will show an error if you try to use a different objective.

Options and Configuration

Catalog Sharing

You can share catalog access with business users:

  1. Click the Share button on a catalog
  2. Select business users and permission level (Full or Advertise)
  3. This grants them access to use the catalog for their own campaigns

Managing Permissions with Share Permissions

Catalog Sync Sources

Wevion discovers catalogs from three sources:

Source Description
Owned Catalogs created in your Business Manager
Client Catalogs shared with your BM by other businesses
Assigned Catalogs assigned to system users with catalog management scope

Owned catalogs take precedence if the same catalog appears in multiple sources.

Product Video Preview

For products with videos, Wevion can fetch the video source URL from Meta for preview purposes. Click the video icon on a product to view it.

FAQ

Q: How do I create a product catalog? A: Product catalogs are created in Meta Commerce Manager (not in Wevion). You can create a catalog from a data feed, manual upload, or via Shopify/WooCommerce integration. Once created, it automatically appears in Wevion after syncing.

Q: Can I edit products from Wevion? A: No. Product management (adding, editing, removing products) is done in Meta Commerce Manager. Wevion is a read-only viewer for catalog data.

Q: Why don't I see product sets in my catalog? A: Product sets are created in Meta Commerce Manager. If you haven't created any, you'll see an empty list. Create at least one product set (e.g., "All Products") to use with DPA campaigns.

Q: What catalog verticals does Wevion support? A: Wevion supports all Meta catalog verticals: e-commerce, travel, real estate, and auto. The most common use case is e-commerce product catalogs.

Q: Do I need a pixel connected to my catalog? A: For retargeting campaigns (showing products people viewed on your site), yes — the pixel must be connected as an external event source. For prospecting campaigns (showing products to new audiences), a pixel is helpful but not strictly required.

Q: How often does catalog data refresh in Wevion? A: Catalog metadata (name, product count) is synced when you trigger a sync. Product details (price, availability) are fetched in real-time from Meta's API when you browse them in Wevion, so they always reflect the current state.

Q: Can I use multiple product sets in one campaign? A: Each ad in a DPA campaign targets one product set. To target multiple product sets, create multiple ads (one per product set) within the same ad set.
